Today was Jude’s turn to have a summer party at school... After how much hard work Tommy’s was yesterday I was debating whether to go or not. Whenever Jude sees me at school he just thinks I’m there to take him home, so I didn’t want to confuse or upset him, but after speaking to his teacher I decided to give it a go. When I got there the party was going on in the garden area, but Jude was anxiously pacing up and down the playground with his assistant. The number of people had thrown him and they were trying to help him calm down. He took one look at me and thrust his hand at me like I should take him away 😬 So we decided to take advantage of the amazing play area they have that was separate from the party and use some of the equipment instead. We had it to ourselves, and 10 minutes on the swing, the roundabout and the seesaw really helped him to regulate and a smile was soon back on his face. Then I decided it was time to brave the party again and led him back towards the garden. We got a drink from one of the stalls and then Jude led me over to the trampoline 😂 A quick bounce on there, some playing with a ball, and within no time any apprehension had gone and he was galloping around the party, happily flapping his hands. Now relaxed he began to take notice of the music that was playing and was soon rocking side to side, in between his galloping! When it came to an end we sat and waited, before he dragged me back to his classroom with him 😁 Once inside he went and sat straight at his workstation, as if to show me where he sits 💔 I sat opposite him, and whilst I got to speak to his teacher he alternated between sitting with me or going off to bounce on the class peanut ball. A couple of years ago I never would have thought Jude could enjoy an event like today. Even today I was worried he wouldn’t be able to cope. And even though the start was difficult for him, he’s far more resilient than he used to be. He’s able to self-regulate much better, he knows that not every difficulty has to lead to a meltdown. Watching him today, and listening to all of the teachers and staff say such lovely things about Jude, I couldn’t be more proud ❤️

"My son Maleek was diagnosed with Autism in March of 2016 at the age of 3. Me, being a single parent, took the news of his Autism hard at first. But when I looked at Maleek I knew that we together would get through this journey. Now, he is a thriving 5 year old and is doing great. With the help of his teachers and therapists, Maleek is hitting benchmark goals and his speech is getting better daily!" - Malika G.

🚛POM POM DELIVERY🚛 At times, taking away the pencil and paper can still be just as effective with learning how to read and write than with. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Wait. What?! 😳How does Pom Pom Delivery help with literacy skills? •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Here, my boys moved the Pom Poms from the left ➡️right. This is a HUGE concept with reading and writing. (The things we don’t intentionally think about, right?) This is one of the most important rhythms to master under 4. 🙌🏼Practice on repeat. The more we practice now, the more natural it will be later. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••• The more obvious skill with this Breakfast Invitation is color sorting. Sorting by 1 alike attribute (here, color) is also right on target for under 4. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••You can find this particular Breakfast Invitation right now in THREE different places. 1️⃣Link in bio. 2️⃣on your Breakfast Invitation Activity Cards 3️⃣IG stories. Love this!!! Not sure how many other Stores across the country are doing this but my local Morrison’s in Lincoln is doing an autism friendly shopping hour every Saturday morning from 9am. This involves- Dimming the lights Turning the music down Avoiding making tannoy announcements Reducing the movement of trolleys and baskets Turning checkout noises and other electrical noises off Informing customers it is quiet hour This is great for me and my daughter in the school holidays as I normally do my shopping when she is at school as spending more than 10 minutes in a busy store can get a bit much for her. On top of this they are working to improve the awareness among staff members of the issues autistic people face when coming into a busy shopping environment. I know we’re still a long way off where we need to be in terms of autism awareness, acceptance and understanding but this is definitely a brilliant step in the right direction.
