#healthy #tacotuesday recipe!!! So, I really make it a #habit not to eat any #grains because they cause a ton of #inflammation in my system, causing me sinus pressure, bloat, belly issues and soreness in my joints but that sometimes makes it challenging to eat my favorite foods! I found this great #recipe for #plantaintacoshells from @predominantly_paleo that I had to share and it’s only a few ingredients! I’ll be honest, it was time consuming but easy to make and so worth it! Plantain Taco Shells: 3 ripe plantains 1/2 cup avocado oil 1 teaspoon freshly ground garlic sea salt (more if desired) 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Optional: 1 teaspoon (or more) hot sauce (like Cholula) Optional: 1/2 lime squeezed -Preheat oven to 350 (if your oven runs hot, you might need to lower just slightly) -Combine all ingredients in blender until they are pureed -On a parchment lined baking sheet space out sizable scoops of the puree -Using the back of a spoon spread out each scoop into a flat circle; mine were each out the size of my hand spread out (flat) -Bake for about 20 minutes then flip them over for another 10 minutes or so until the “tortilla” becomes solid yet flexible -Remove baking sheet from oven and wait a minute for “tortillas” to slightly cool -Next “hang” each tortilla by folding it over the baking rack directly Bake like this for another 20-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy (center might be slightly more chewy depending on thickness and cooking time) -Remove from oven and prop them open while they cool slightly. Are all oats the same? Last night, I received a great question from one of our Wellness Detoxers: ______________________ Question: Silly question, would you say steel cut oats are the best route to go? I normally do for myself but of course my girls don’t like it and prefer quick oats. ____________________ My response: Hi There! If everyone likes oats, that is great, but I know texture (especially with kiddos) is important. There are basically 3 kinds of oats: oat groats (which are the closest to the oats actual form/shape), then steel cut oats (where they carefully slice the oat groat into a few smaller pieces), then quick oats (where they take the steel cut oat, smash it and steam it). Although from a nutrition perspective, they are all pretty similar, the least processed of the bunch is always the healthiest option, so oats groats, then steel cut is #2, then quick oats, but as long as you are eating oats, It is a pretty healthy option (no mater which one you select).
